Sustainable infrastructure, environmental and resource management in Kigali/Rwanda
The Rapid Planning project supports the efforts of the City of Kigali, the Rwandan Ministry of Infrastructure and other stakeholders to improve the sustainability and resource use of the supply and disposal infrastructure. It is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). At the final conference of Rapid Planning in Kigali, Rwandan partners received software models, data and research reports. In addition, there were reports and discussions on the practical integration of the research findings into urban planning projects. Thus, e.g. reduce the already low greenhouse gas emissions per inhabitant by improving the use of organic waste and greywater recycling, and achieving almost 90% supply of fruit and vegetables by promoting urban agriculture.
