Foodstuff CO2 calculator

Germany’s most comprehensive CO2 calculator for foodstuffs and meals went online in late 2016. It was commissioned by Unilever, and ifeu calculated the CO2 balance sheets for a variety of foodstuffs for inclusion in the calculator. The calculator makes it possible to determine the CO2 balance sheet of individual foodstuffs and an extensive range of recipes by means of a straightforward drag-and-drop function. It is also possible to compare vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian and other forms of nutrition. The food calculator and background information, climate-friendly recipes and helpful tips are available here free of charge.

Milk calculator

As part of the project entitled “Ableitung von Optimierungspotentialen zur umweltfreundlichen Herstellung von Milch und Milcherzeugnissen” (Deriving optimisation potentials for the environmentally friendly production of milk and milk products), which was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), ifeu undertook a comprehensive study of the environmental impact of different dairy products and also designed the climate and energy calculator for the German dairy industry and populated it with the relevant data. The calculator is aimed in particular at dairies, and enables them to calculate greenhouse gas and energy balance sheets in relation to specific products and processes. Other interested user groups can also find out about the impact of various scenarios on the greenhouse gas and energy balances of their selected dairy products. The milk calculator is also free to access here.
