Industrial models

Life Cycle Assessment modelling often requires the repeated characterisation of very similar processes for the production and supply of raw material feedstocks, semi-finished products and energy. Data on these processes have been collected and analysed since the foundation of ifeu. Thus, a number of models detailing basic industrial processes including a range of parameters applicable to many situations and scenarios have been compiled in many projects over the years. These models are primarily based on primary data from industrial sources, as well as literature data and expert estimates and appraisal. Input data are regularly updated. Due to their versatility and adaptability, the models may provide baseline data for many different questions and  find application in diverse range of projects. The following pages provide an introduction to the individual industrial models.

Our models

Electricity grid model

The ifeu electricity grid model is a flexible tool to derive the environmental impacts connected to electricity generation in different countries and regions of the world. Included are extraction and…

Oil and gas production model

The oil and gas production model presents a powerful and versatile tool for the assessment of environmental impacts arising from oil and gas production including transport in different global regions…

Refinery and petrochemical industry modelling

Material and energy flows within a single refinery or an entire refinery region may be analysed with the complex and flexible ifeu refinery model. It may also be used for the characterisation of…

Iron and steel production model

The iron and steel production model describes the entire process chain from iron ore mining and processing via furnace and oxygen converter to rolling mill and surface finishing.
