The University of Kassel has appointed ifeu Managing Director Martin Pehnt as an honorary professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The university is thus honouring the energy expert's services to science and teaching. Pehnt has been researching the transformation of the energy system, renewable energies, energy efficiency and their technical, system-analytical and energy-political embedding for over two decades. In addition to his research, he advises national and international institutions and companies and is a member of the climate councils in Baden-Württemberg and Hamburg, among others.

"I take the honorary professorship as an incentive to further intensify the Kassel-Heidelberg research axis. Kassel is a hotspot for sustainability research," says Pehnt. Pehnt has close ties to the University of Kassel. Pehnt has been teaching the "Energy Policy" seminar at the university since 2010. “The honorary professorship is an excellent starting point for innovative collaboration between university research and ifeu as a non-university, transdisciplinary research institution.”

"We are delighted to continue our long-standing collaboration with the momentum of the honorary professorship," says Klaus Vajen, Professor and Head of Department at the University of Kassel. "We share a passion for the energy transition and enjoy developing new solutions."

Pehnt's inaugural lecture in July 2024 is entitled: "The heat transition: A bridge between long-term scientific modelling and short-term political instruments".
