New report on market for energy services published
Since 2015, a team of experts from Prognos AG, Verian and ifeu has been monitoring and evaluating the market for energy services in Germany on behalf of the Federal Agency for Energy Efficiency (BfEE). Based on the analysis and extensive surveys of both the supply and demand sides, the latest market report has now been published. The presentation of the figures has been supplemented by an overview of the political framework conditions and a look at the practicalities of the energy services market. A special focus is also placed on the topic of waste heat. The study looks at the reference year 2023 and is available in German at the following link:
Empirische Untersuchung des Marktes für Energiedienstleistungen, Energieaudits und andere Energieeffizienzmaßnahmen im Jahr 2024
A summary of the report in English will be available soon an can be found here: https://www.bfee-online.de/BfEE/DE/Energiedienstleistungen/Marktkennzahlen/marktkennzahlen_node.html (Infobox „Marktstudien“)
For the first time, there has been a decline in the total market volume for energy services of 2.3% due to the slight market downturn in the largest segment, energy contracting. Nevertheless, the markets for energy consulting and energy management are showing strong growth: energy services achieved a market volume of approximately €10.8 billion in 2023. Overall, the energy services market is characterised by a wide range and large number of market players. The size of the companies offering these services varies from independent, small offices with one employee to corporations with several thousand employees. All providers in Germany are largely evenly distributed across all regions, with higher concentrations in the industrially and demographically strong regions in the south and west of Germany. There are currently no regions with supply bottlenecks in terms of energy efficiency services. However, high energy prices and the resulting increase in energy costs are likely to increase the pressure on all players to take action in the future. Further market growth in energy services is therefore possible.
