A roadmap for the energy transition

The energy transition is an official policy, and its implementation began twelve years ago with the first Renewable Energy Act. The energy transition is a far-reaching process that is set to last for decades. It involves the initiation of technical innovations and social developments. The transformation requires action in all areas – in electricity generation and power consumption, but also in the heating and transport sector.

There are frequent calls for a “master plan” in order to bring structure to the implementation of the energy transition. An interdisciplinary team of scientists from the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (ifeu), the University of Regensburg, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP), has connected the individual strands of the energy change to form a whole, and created interfaces and transitions in the form of a roadmap for the energy transition as a starting point for discussion.
