CO2 balancing assistance for climate protection municipalities in Baden-Württemberg

Energy and CO2 balancing are used to calculate the actual state of energy consumption, the use of renewable energy, and CO2 emissions in a municipality, and to attribute them to the different sectors and energy carriers. The balancing tool BICO2 BW was developed by ifeu in 2010 on behalf of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment and tested by local authorities in a pilot phase. A significant component part of the project was the application of state-specific data for the optimisation of balancing results. As part of the current project, new balance years are integrated annually and the balancing methods are adapted to the current developments of the BISKO system (municipal balancing system). In addition to a graphical representation of the results, the tool also contains the indicator set of benchmarks for municipal climate protection and an export sheet for the Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy. An instruction manual and training developed specially for the tool support local authorities in the use of the tool.
