Municipal climate action coaching

The initial project “Municipal climate action coaching I” developed a coaching approach to introduce municipalities with limited prior experience to climate change mitigation. In addition to the introductory coaching experience gained in five pilot municipalities, the main output of the project included teaching materials and tools (e.g. debate preparation, quick start package, quick primer). This form of introductory coaching is available with 15 consultant days since 2013, funded through the municipality guideline.

The project Coaching II now aims to advance and supplement materials and tools, and to offer training for qualified coaches providing introductory consulting services. A total of about 60 coaches (i.e. municipal consultants of energy agencies and consulting offices) across Germany will be trained in a “coach the coach” scheme. The training scheme not only covers skills and tools for municipal politics and administration, but also includes qualified and standardized guidance.

ifeu supports the project with scientific expertise in the compilation of teaching materials, develops concepts for the training of coaches and host training sessions in coordination with the other project partners.

The first training sessions started in Hanover in the spring of 2016. The second series will be held in Fulda in autumn 2016.
