Optimisation of the use of organic and green waste in Baden-Württemberg

The potential uses of biowaste and green waste were surveyed in six representative districts in discussion with the local stakeholders and compared with the current state of separate collection. It was demonstrated how collection can be increased, and where there are opportunities for improvement in the treatment of organic waste from an ecological viewpoint. In some districts, particular attention was paid to increasing the collection of green waste and optimising the associated recovery strategy. The actual planning and economic consideration of the optimised scenarios was carried out by the project partner IG Lux.

These results were used to update the guideline entitled “High-quality recovery of biowaste” developed in 2015 in conjunction with IG Lux, the Öko-Institut and Ressource Abfall GmbH, which was then republished by the Baden-Württemberg State Institute for the Environment, Survey and Nature Conservation (LUBW).
