The Turkish city of Bornova and Heidelberg have had a project partnership in climate protection since 2022. A 10-member delegation from Bornova will be visiting Heidelberg from 22 to 26 January 2024 to seek advice on developing a concept for climate protection and climate change adaptation. climate change adaptation. The city of Bornova is also looking for potential cooperation partners for further inter-municipal collaboration. Heidelberg has a very good international reputation as a climate protection municipality. There have also been contacts between the two municipalities for a long time - through the membership of both cities in the "Energy Cities" climate protection network.

The delegation can expect a packed programme of events at various companies and institutes as well as a tour of Heidelberg's Bahnstadt, which is a model of passive house construction. Today, the ifeu Institute welcomed the group of three mayors as well as representatives from the university and the energy sector. Lothar Eisenmann, Philipp Wachter and Fabian Bergk first introduced the institute and its research focus and then answered the central question "How do we take an actor-oriented approach to our climate protection concepts?" in a practical way using ifeu's existing projects on municipal climate protection. Meetings like these are valuable for intermunicipal and intercultural dialogue: they allow us to look at things from different perspectives and promote mutual understanding. Many thanks to the representatives of Bornova for today's visit.
