The EUBCE, the largest European biomass conference with more than 1,200 participants, recently took place in Valencia. Guido Reinhardt and Nils Rettenmaier from ifeu Heidelberg were there as session chairs and speakers and were available at times to answer visitors' questions at the EnXylaScope stand.

The project of the same name is investigating various value chains for enzymatically modified xylan. The associated sustainability assessment was prepared by ifeu and two partial reports on the ecological and social assessment were recently published. The latter can be downloaded from the ifeu project page (EnXylaScope publications).

In addition, the two ifeu scientists were active as session chairs and Nils Rettenmaier gave a presentation on "Renewable electricity for bio-methanol or synthetic methanol? A comparison of efficiencies and prospective environmental impacts", during which he presented the exciting preliminary life cycle assessment results of the EU project ēQATOR (see EUBC programme).
