FlyingLess Toolbox online. Successful research, less flying. This is how it works:

Travelling to conferences, project meetings and fieldwork are central elements of the culture of research and teaching. International networking plays a significant role for the reputations of academic institutions as well as for the careers of researchers. However, this is often associated with air travel. This is in contrast to the measures needed in view of the climate crisis to quickly and drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero. Universities and non-university research institutions have a great responsibility and role model function here, especially when it comes to demonstrating that and how the scientific consensus on man-made climate change can be translated into concrete action in climate protection.

The NKI-funded project "FlyingLess" not only records actual conditions, but in particular develops practice-oriented tools with the help of which institutions can successfully plan, implement and permanently anchor projects to reduce air travel: One example is the FlyingLess "Toolbox"; a collection of scientifically sound background information of central topics and basics for reducing air travel emissions in science. The modularly compiled slides, checklists, videos and documents, which can be individualised and used in their own selection and sequence depending on the situation and need.
