COUNTLESS

Within COUNTLESS, 13 partners under the coordination of VITO (Belgium) will bring lignin processing to industrial scale and make the production of lignin-based platform chemicals cost-efficient and sustainable.

COUNTLESS (Cost-effective production of lignin platform chemicals extending the biobased chemicals portfolio) will provide a pioneering techno-economic demonstration of the first continuous catalytic hydrogenolysis process on a demo scale. The project partners will process the lignin-based platform chemicals and demonstrate their applicability and cost-efficiency. The end applications will be tested by industry leaders Braskem, Soprema, Kastamonu and Daren Labs, while Bloom Biorenewables and Fibenol will supply the lignin.  ifeu is contributing a comprehensive sustainability assessment to the project, which includes an environmental assessment/LCA, a social assessment and an analysis of the legal framework, health aspects and safety.

This project has received funding from the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE-JU) under grant agreement No 101112555. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Bio Based Industries Consortium.
