District Heating Technologies
Strategies for the implemementation of climate neutral district heating technologies
In order to exploit the full potential of district heating as a supporter of the energy transition and an instrument of sector coupling, a massive expansion of climate-neutral district heating technologies is necessary. The aim of the project is, first, to identify potential barriers for climate-neutral district heating technologies, second, to develop measures to overcome these barriers (regulatory law, planning and approval procedures, funding), and third, to discuss the developed measures with selected stakeholders and experts.
The work is divided into the technology categories: Large-scale heat pumps, unavoidable waste heat, heat storage, large-scale solar thermal and photovoltaic thermal systems and other ad hoc assignments. ifeu is in charge of questions concerning the use of unavoidable waste heat in heat networks, the use of unavoidable heat from thermal waste treatment plants and the use of heat from waste water.
