Land rucksack of goods and services

Identification and verification of data sources and data bases for the calculation of the land footprints of goods and services for life cycle assessments and the simplified environmental assessment

While widely recognised methods and approaches are used for the "classic" environmental impacts in life cycle assessments, there is still no recognised general methodological solution for the assessment of land use. At the same time, this topic has received a great deal of attention from international experts in recent years.

This project aims to position and concretise the hemeroby class approach supported by the UBA. As the methodological concept itself has already been largely pre-developed, the focus of the project is on identifying the basic data. The scope and quality of the basic data will then determine the concrete and final design of the method.

Specifically, the project pursues the following objectives:

  • Identification of the data basis for the energy sources and building materials consumed in Germany, including their respective upstream chains
  • Verification of the data basis using exemplary environmental assessments
  • Examination of connectivity to other indicator systems
  • Creation of a concept for a database for updating the data
