Scientific support for the Agency for Municipal Climate Protection

Since April 2023, ifeu has been providing its scientific expertise to support the Agency for Local Climate Protection, which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.

Since the beginning of April 2023, ifeu has been supporting the Agency for Municipal Climate Protection (formerly SK:KK") with its scientific expertise. One focus is on supporting municipalities with greenhouse gas balancing. In order to standardise greenhouse gas balancing in municipalities nationwide, ifeu and the Climate Alliance developed the "Municipal Balancing System", or BISKO for short. The ifeu was already involved in the development of BISKO in 2016 as part of a project funded by the BMU and has been involved in the activities for the further development and application of the standard ever since. Support for BISKO is now part of the Agency for Municipal Climate Protection. On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK), work will now be carried out in the coming years on the further promotion and updating of BISKO. 

Furthermore, ifeu supports the Agency for Municipal Climate Protection with the latest scientific findings in the field of energy transition. The knowledge will be prepared in the form of information events and instructions for local authorities, among other things. The established practical guide to climate protection in municipalities will also be continuously revised as part of the project with the involvement of ifeu's expertise.
