Shaping municipal climate action ambitions in a targeted manner

Orientation framework for effective climate action targets in municipalities

Businesswoman show graph target carbon global warming

On behalf of the German Environment Agency, a standardised definition of greenhouse gas neutrality in municipalities is to be developed. Furthermore, recommendations for operationalisable climate action targets for municipalities will be developed.

The basis for municipal climate action is usually a climate action target set by local politicians. The operationalisation of this climate action target is often hampered by the lack of a uniform definition of greenhouse gas neutrality in municipalities. As part of the project, this definition is to be developed in a co-creative process between the client and contractor. Furthermore, an orientation framework for municipalities is to be created that specifically addresses municipalities that wish to go beyond the federal government's targets in their climate action efforts.
