Balance on mass flow, climate change and environmental aspects for the federal province of Berlin in 2018
SKU-balance 2018
The SKU balance has been compiled every two years since 2010. The goal and intention is to further optimize Berlin's waste and recycling management, to evaluate goals and to control waste streams. The synthetic turf waste type has been added to the 2018 SKU balance. Two chapters are dedicated to the special topics "Recycling quota - EU calculation regulations" (Chapter 6) and "Assessment of electricity and heat from waste incineration" (Chapter 7).
A special topic of the SKU balance 2018 is the reuse of used goods. The Berlin Senate Administration started the Re-Use initiative in September 2018 with, among other things, the first pop-up store in Berlin. The scientific monitoring of the initiative also includes a study for an indicative LCA for the preparation for re-use using the example of wooden furniture, laptops and shoes. In exchange with Berlin welfare and used goods department stores, a tool was developed as a further measure to support re-use, with which the waste prevention performance of these stores can be shown as an orientation.
