Support the Competence Centre for Sustainable Consumption

Sustainable consumption plays a central role in achieving Germany’s climate, environmental, and resource conservation goals. Through the National Program for Sustainable Consumption, the German government aims to promote sustainable consumption patterns in various areas of life and to strengthen the necessary framework conditions for this. The Competence Centre for Sustainable Consumption at the German Environment Agency supports this process as a central hub for information, networking, and knowledge transfer. As part of a research consortium, ifeu provides the Centre with scientific expertise to assist in carrying out these tasks.

The goal of the project is to further expand the Centre’s scientific foundation, visibility, and reach. To this end, current findings from research and practice are being synthesized, new professional foundations are being developed, and various stakeholder groups are being connected with one another.

As part of the project, the Centre’s existing information and support services are being scientifically refined and updated. This includes updating the data foundations of the so called “Klimawaage” – an interactive learning and hands-on Climate Scale – and developing a target-group-specific version of the tool to better reflect different life realities and information needs.

Sustainable consumption can only be advanced in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders. Therefore, the project supports the organisation and implementation of various dialogue and participation formats. In addition, expert dialogues and workshops are supported to discuss current challenges and potential solutions together with stakeholders from politics, academia, business, and civil society.

Another focus is on accompanying scientific research on current topics related to sustainable consumption. This involves analysing new developments and research questions, compiling background information, and developing recommendations for action. By combining scientific analysis, networking, and knowledge transfer, the project helps to further embed sustainable consumption in society, politics, and practice.
