Climate Change Impact of Wet Finishing in Indonesia using Innovative Reactive Dyes
Supplementary analysis - published as part of the project EnaTex
Authors: Hanna Karg, Sven Gärtner, Guido Reinhardt
The joint project "Energy and Sustainability in the Textile Industry - Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies in Partnership for Climate Protection" (EnaTex) aims to support the Indonesian textile industry towards a sustainable future. As part of the project, Karg et al. (2024) assessed the environmental impact of two cotton wet finishing technologies used in the Indonesian textile industry. Specifically, the study compared the climate change impact, expressed by the carbon footprint, of a semi-continuous cold pad batch (CPB) system with that of a discontinuous cotton wet finishing system where both systems use conventional reactive dyes.
This supplementary analysis extends the original research question to investigate the use of innovative reactive dyes in a CPB system as requested by the Research Institute for Textile and Clothing (FTB) at Hochschule Niederrhein.
Therefore, the aim of this study is to assess and compare the carbon footprint of cotton wet finishing in a CPB system using conventional and innovative reactive dyes under Indonesian conditions.
