Klimaschutz im Gebäudebereich voranbringen

Buildings are a key area for climate action – and the private building stock is crucial. The buildings sector is responsible for around 30 per cent of national greenhouse gas emissions (GHG emissions). Of this, approximately 80 per cent is attributable to private households. Older detached and semi-detached houses in particular have high energy consumption due to their construction methods and lack of renovation. These issues must be addressed for effective climate protection.
This focus paper explains why the renovation of private buildings is an important component of local climate protection, how local authorities can support owners in this process, and what benefits they themselves derive from it. It provides local authorities with an overview of key strategies for encouraging renovations in the private building stock. It also summarises tried-and-tested approaches, tools and examples, and demonstrates how local authorities can effectively fulfil their role as multipliers.
