In a first step, the ifeu team evaluated the GHG balances from 655 reports of French hospitals published by the French environmental agency ADEME.

Accordingly, each hospital employee causes an average of 10 t of CO2e per year. 75 per cent of these emissions come from Scope 3, with the purchase of products and services accounting for the largest share, followed by commuting to work and transporting patients and visitors.

The ADEME method is well-tested and will be used for the GHG balance of the UKHD.
