Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) Europe and ifeu establish a partnership to develop greenhouse gas monitoring in the health sector

HCWH flagship initiative, the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals network includes thousands of hospitals, healthcare leaders and healthcare professionals, with members across the globe in 75 countries.

The project Climate Protection in Hospitals by Optimising Supply Chains (KliOL) has the goal of using the example of Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) to balance the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of hospitals with a focus on emissions from supply chains ("Scope 3" emissions), to implement exemplary climate protection measures at the UKHD and to evaluate the effects on the greenhouse gas balance, costs and possible health effects.

In cooperation with the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, ifeu's contribution is the development and application of a GHG calculator for hospitala. Because HCWH is also developing a monitoring tool, it is the goal of partnership with HCWH to harmonize the method and datasets used.
