ifeu helps to develop new concepts for the mobility and energy transition for the region
Starting signal: The testing phases of the first real-world laboratories begin in the transform-R project
Well-developed cycle path networks, urban districts with limited motorised traffic and car parks with photovoltaic systems and charging facilities for electric mobility and mobility experiments for citizens: these are all building blocks for the mobility and energy transition. How can these measures be practically implemented locally? And to what extent can municipal solutions for the mobility transition and climate protection be transferred to the entire Rhine-Main region?
The transform-R project is researching options that municipalities and districts can use to promote the mobility transition and climate protection locally. In addition to the FrankfurtRhineMain Regional Association, the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research Heidelberg (ifeu GmbH), the ISOE - Institute for Social-Ecological Research Frankfurt am Main and the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main are involved in the cooperative project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The transform-R project is now entering the practical phase. It was heralded by a major event in Frankfurt's Stadthaus: at the ‘Sustainable Mobility FrankfurtRhineMain’ networking meeting, municipalities, districts and stakeholders from the region were invited to share their experiences in implementing the mobility and energy transition and help shape it.
‘We need to discuss how we can plan public spaces in a more integrated way and utilise them in multiple ways, and which potential areas in existing buildings can be used for solar energy generation,’ said Angelika Paar from ifeu.
