Bioeconomy monitoring system

Further development with special consideration of aspects of preventive environmental protection

Waldarbeiten

With the new bioeconomy strategy, the German federal government is underpinning its efforts to move towards a sustainable and bio-based economy in the future and to establish this in the long term.

In addition to technological issues, there are also economic, ecological, social and political challenges whose relevance and effects need to be examined. In order to better manage and prioritize future bioeconomy developments, the Federal Government is working on continuing and intensifying the pilot phase for a monitoring system initiated in 2016.

The aim of this project is therefore to develop a monitoring system with relevant and meaningful bioeconomy indicators, in particular to protect natural systems sustainably and effectively.  In exchange with related monitoring initiatives, both pragmatic requirements for the use of indicators and the latest findings are taken into account. The project results are highly relevant for current political initiatives and processes.

The ifeu evaluates indicators and indicator systems that are used in the field of biomass use and related areas. The aim is to examine whether and how existing approaches and practical experience can serve as a basis for a monitoring concept for the bioeconomy.
