PULK – Concepts for emission reduction in logistics

Potentials of environmental concepts in logistics to reduce emissions from freight transport (PULK)

Background

Logistics is a relevant industry when it comes to environmental and climate protection. Concepts for modal shift, traffic avoidance, increased efficiency and the use of new technological solutions offer a variety of starting points for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. What is lacking, however, is a structured overview of the various possibilities and their practicability, and a uniform evaluation scheme with which emission reduction potentials can be quantified.

Aim of the project

The aim of the project is to describe and quantify measures for environmentally friendly logistics. In doing so, different supply chain areas, network types and goods groups are covered and the respective acceptance potential among the companies is also illuminated.

The main result of the research project is a collection of measures along different fields of action. This will provide policy-makers with important insights for the future development of successful support measures to strengthen sustainable logistics in practice. In addition, logistics service providers and shippers can use this overview themselves to identify effective measures.
