Summary of the final report on the accompanying study on the promotion of electric buses in public transport

A review of the funding guideline for the purchase of electric buses in local public transport for the years 2018 to 2023 - on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Action

The Federal Republic of Germany has set itself the goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2045. By 2030, GHG emissions in Germany are to be reduced by 65 percent compared to 1990 levels. The transport sector must make a significant contribution to this. However, its emissions in 2023 were just eleven percent below the 1990 level. The transport sector must therefore reduce its GHG emissions more quickly in future if our country is to achieve its climate targets. This also requires well-developed and emission-free local public transport - and, in turn, the widespread use of emission-free electric buses for road-based public transport.
