Sufficiency practices in urban districts: BMBF City of the Future*Tour reaches its last stop in Heidelberg

What should the city of the future look like? How will our cities become liveable, CO2 -neutral, climate-adapted, energy- and resource-efficient? Around 50 research teams have been developing practical strategies and products since 2016.

From June 2022 to December 2023, a virtual tour of Germany led through more than 20 municipalities and presented selected results and impulses from the BMBF-funded future city research. After one and a half years, the tour has now reached its 18th and final stop in Heidelberg:

The transdisciplinary joint project "SuPraStadt", funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), has been looking into the question of how exactly the social diffusion of sufficiency practices affects urban districts. Under the leadership of ifeu, sufficiency practices and their impact on quality of life, participation and resource conservation have been and are being tested in Heidelberg as part of the project. The Institute for Social-Ecological Research Frankfurt am Main (ISOE), Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences, the Collegium Academicum hall of residence and the City of Heidelberg's Environmental Agency were among the partners involved. In Heidelberg, the Hasenleiser district management was also involved as a practical partner in the neighborhood of the real-world laboratory.
